Freecycle

Freecycle is a handy site if you need something or need to get rid of something.

I\'ve belonged for about a week and I\'ve gotten two almost brand-new pair of shoes.

You sign up and then, at least if you are in an \"active\" area the messages start flying. People offer up all kinds of things - clothes, baby cribs, socks, furniture, just about everything. Then whoever wants the item, replies to the message. Whoever replies first, unless there is some other criteria (I would assume), gets it. Sometimes there are small strings - like pick up by X day or today or you have to take all or nothing. Still . . .

The biggest complaint I have seen about the group is the huge number of no-shows to pick up stuff.

You can also post that you need whatever . . . not sure how successful that is, but the possibility is there . . .

Also, at least the one to which I am subscribed is VERY active . . . meaning a hundred or so messages a day and if you want something you have to be quick.

Sounds good, I had issues with the link, though.

Sorry, I just realized, I goofed . . . again.

Try this one: Freecycle.

I've been using it for a while (really like it) and I have found it's a lot harder to get a responce for something you want. For those that are signing up you may find that you get a lot of e-mails from freecycle members; you have the option of digest versions so it may be a good idea to do that. As well you can always just read them on the web instead. Must have or get a yahoo ID to become a freecycle member.

I love Freecycle! Got rid of an old computer & a bunch of pre-weight loss clothing so far, and can think of tons more crap in the basement I'll be happy to unload. Unfortunately, there's no potential income generated, but there are some things that you know just won't sell. Since some of the Dumps OH I MEAN "Transfer Stations" (or whatever they're called these days) have closed their free bins/swap shops, this is a convenient alternative.

Seems like most folks who post looking for something in my area get numerous responses.

I've used it too.
I know craigslist.org is another place to look.

Freecycle is Kick ASS!! Heck, im wrapped in the electric blanket i got from freecycle right now! I just picked up a "soft side" water bed for my girlfriend and I. All kinds of junk people are trying to get rid of. Ive given away a thing or two as well.

this is one part of living in a Community. pretty great if you ask me!

This freecycling culture has only started to really catch on here in Canada since last year. What a great idea to finally have sites like this where you can both get rid of your unwanted goods or find something you need.
