I am not frugal on many things...like beauty products. [I spend premium money.] That is the one area I *do* allow my vanity to run rampant. However, if I can hit a discount store where my name brands are housed, I am all over it. BlueFlameLeo and I got some awesome brand name conditioner at Big Lots. I, also, got a brand name hair gloss [I usually use] for like $2, as well as Kerasal brand foot softening creme for $2.
The thing about Big Lots, though, is you never know what's going to be there. But it's always good to check in once in a while, especially if it's in a plaza beside your regular shopping store, as it often is. [ie, Like why go to Big Lots to save $1.00 when it took $$1.25 to get there and back?] |

Get to know your Butcher! Paling up to your butcher can mean big savings. He can trim the fat and give you a better price than marked in the window. He can also provide you with inside tips on the best time to shop, such as when they reduce the prices and put them on the rack. Getting first dibs on day old meat can mean eating like a king on pauper price. |

Yard sales are *made* for dickering and....
If the weather is poor, the better [for the purchaser]! I was GIVING stuff away when people were willing to buy something because it was cold and rainy.
Do NOT act too excited about something...act like you're not really sure but maybe you'll take the lamp... [even if you LOVE it...think it's an ANTIQUE...worth MILLIONS...]... "Do you have any other lamps that look better?" or "Do you have any other lamps that are cheaper? I mean $5 isn't bad but..."
NEVER insult the host - not the prices and not the junk. I have NEVER given anything to someone who insulted my decision making skills in pricing, "$5 for THAT? Are you kidding? I'll give you $3." I have THROWN stuff away that I could have sold because some people get carried away with being the big shot.
If you're the outgoing sort, you may also like to speak one on one with the host and offer to haul the stuff away at the end of the day for a small fee! "If anything's left over, I'd be glad to come back by and take it off your hands so you won't have to re-pack it. I'd dispose of it properly at the dump/salvation army/whatever is appropriate. I'm just trying to make a few extra dollars today." So maybe she'd give YOU $10 just to save a headache and YOU'd get the leftovers that YOU could sift through at your pleasure. I cannot think of the times I would have gladly paid a portion to someone to take my junk off my hands to send the rest to charity...the stuff I didn't sell.
PS> Thanks for #2. I'll do that. I made friend with someone in the meat department and he gave me all these neat recipes. then we moved. but i'll try that. |
